Other sources/from fellow teachers and other reference material:
- Tell students your goals for them (sometimes at the top of a test) Ask why that goal?
- BE A COACH
- Let your students see you as a person. (Introduce yourself DAY 1 )
- Teach them how to work a room (I like using this method for when it is time to present projects or information)
- Have a parent open house for the day each semester.
- When students enter the room make it a point to develop a relationship. One teacher at my high school did the "pound it" with a question.
- Think about the class that you learned the most and the class that you had the most "fun learning in". Can you use any of their methods?
- Carry a small notepad.
- Use a kitchen timer.
-Eat lunch with some of your students and staff!!!!! ( I did this last year, it really did help me get to know them better)
-CONTACT OTHER TEACHERS/STAFF AND PARENTS!!!! (MAKE IT A POINT TO KNOW EVERYONE ON CAMPUS BY NAME)
-BE CLEAR TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS ABOUT EXPECTATIONS. SEND ADMIN CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS.
- When possible go to after school activities. (BE VISIBLE!)
-Don't be obsessed about what people think.
